MARACAIBO, Venezuela: Argentina striker Hernan Crespo is likely to miss the rest of the Copa America after pulling a muscle in his right leg during a 4-2 win over Colombia on Monday.

"It's very difficult for Hernan to play again in this tournament," Homero de Agostino, Argentina's team doctor, said on Tuesday.

Crespo left the match limping on his right leg, immediately after converting Argentina's first goal, a penalty in the 20th minute.

"I felt the sharp pain as soon as I jumped to celebrate the goal," Crespo said. "I'm angry, of course, but I know the rest of the guys can achieve our goal of winning the tournament."

After two Group C matches, Crespo's three goals put him in a four-way tie with Brazil's Robinho and Paraguay's Roque Santa Cruz and Salvador Cabanas as the tournament's top scorers.

Although the Inter Milan striker will be missed, coach Alfo Basile has brought a powerful arsenal of forwards from European clubs that can easily fill the void and keep the team on track to winning its tournament-best 15th title.

Among the top candidates to take Crespo's place in the lineup for Thursday's match against Paraguay in Barquisimeto is Carlos Tevez. The striker for West Ham of the English Premier League scored a goal off the bench in Argentina's 4-1 opening blowout of the United States.

Starting defender Gabriel Milito, who plays for Spain's Zaragoza, will also miss the match to serve an automatic one-game suspension after receiving his second yellow card against Colombia. He'll be replaced by Daniel Diaz, who plays for Basile's former team Boca Juniors.

Thursday's game will decide who finishes atop Group C.

MERIDA, VENEZUELA — Peru and Uruguay moved on to the Copa America quarterfinals on Tuesday night.

Peru came from behind twice — the second time playing a man short — to tie Bolivia 2-2, and Uruguay played a 0-0 tie with host Venezuela, which was assured a berth.

The United States, which lost to Argentina 4-1 and Paraguay 3-1, could be eliminated before it plays its final first-round game Thursday against Colombia (0-2). The U.S. would lose any chance to advance if Brazil and Chile both pick up at least one point today.

Argentina, Mexico and Paraguay (all 2-0) have earned spots in the quarterfinals along with Venezuela (1-0-2), and Peru and Uruguay (both 1-1-1).

In the opener of Tuesday's doubleheader, Jaime Moreno's lob from the edge of the penalty area beat goalkeeper Leao Butron to put Bolivia ahead in the 24th, but Paolo Guerrero tied the score nine minutes later with a header off a free kick.

Jhasmany Campos gave Bolivia (0-1-2) a 2-1 lead in first-half injury time, and Claudio Pizzaro headed in Juan Carlos Marino's free kick with five minutes remaining.

Puerto Ordaz: Mexico masterminded a stunning 2-0 win over defending champion Brazil in the opener for both teams at the 2007 Copa America championship on Wednesday.

Nery Castillo scored at the 24th minute before Ramon Morales made it 2-0 just five minutes later for underdog Mexico.

Morales scored off a free kick and Castillo beat a defender before hitting the mark to open the scoring against a depleted Brazil squad which was missing some key players.

Brazil had several chances to score in the second half but Robinho’s drive sailed off the crossbar.

In the other Group B match on Wednesday, Chile rallied with two late goals to beat Ecuador 3-2.
Key role

Substitute Carlos Villanueva played a key role by stepping off the bench with 20 minutes remaining to set up one goal before scoring himself to clinch the victory for Chile.

Ecuador had dominated the game and had deservedly broken the deadlock through Antonio Valencia, who collected a pass from Carlos Tenorio before firing home.

In the 19th minute, Colo Colo striker Humberto Suazo equalized with a superb effort from distance.

But Ecuador was soon back in front when Cristian Benitez took advantage of an error by Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo to make it 2-1 in the 22nd minute.

Luis Fernando Suarez’s side continued to dominate and had chances to further extend its lead but failed to convert any of them.

But it was left to rue those missed chances, with Suazo getting his second of the match, and Villanueva won it for Chile with a free kick three minutes from time.

Meanwhile Copa America organisers have reversed an earlier decision and will allow one of the July 10 semifinal match to be played in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas.

PUTRAJAYA: Majikan yang terbabit dengan kes penderaan mungkin akan disenaraihitamkan seumur hidup daripada mendapat pembantu rumah bagi memberi pengajaran kepada mereka supaya tidak melakukan kesalahan seumpama itu.

Pengarah Penguat Kuasa Imigresen, Datuk Ishak Mohamed, berkata pihaknya boleh mencadangkan perkara berkenaan kepada Bahagian Pekerja Asing jabatan itu supaya tindakan terbabit dapat dilaksanakan.

“Jika majikan berkenaan dibuktikan terbabit dalam kes penderaan atau memberi layanan buruk terhadap pembantu rumahnya, kita akan mencadangkan nama mereka untuk disenaraihitamkan.

“Ini bermakna mereka tidak boleh mengupah pembantu rumah sampai bila-bila,” katanya ketika dihubungi, di sini, semalam.

Beliau mengulas kejadian seorang pembantu rumah warga Indonesia nekad menuruni tingkat 16 sebuah kondominium di Sentul Indah, Kuala Lumpur, kelmarin dengan mengikat beberapa pakaiannya untuk dijadikan tali dalam cubaan melarikan diri daripada majikan.

Dalam kejadian kira-kira 11 pagi itu, wanita berusia 33 tahun yang dikenali sebagai Shamelin dipercayai mangsa dera majikannya hanya mampu turun ke tingkat 13 berikutan ketakutan.

Mangsa kemudian diselamatkan dengan menggunakan tali sebelum dibawa masuk melalui tingkap rumah di tingkat 12 kondominium berkenaan.

Pembantu rumah yang mula bekerja di situ sejak Februari lalu, dipercayai dipukul majikannya dan tidak dibenarkan menjamah nasi jika melakukan kesalahan.

Beliau berkata, sebelum ini, seorang majikan di Dengkil, Selangor sudah disenaraihitamkan seumur hidup selepas didapati mendera pembantu rumahnya.

Mengulas mengenai kes Shamelin, Ishak berkata, beliau sudah mengarahkan pegawai penguat kuasanya di Sentul menyiasat latar belakang majikan berkenaan.
